About this UPSC Reasoning practice test
UPSC CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) is Paper 2 of the Prelims. It is qualifying in nature — a minimum of 33% (66 of 200 marks) is required. The paper tests Reading Comprehension (40-50% of marks), Logical Reasoning and Analytical Ability, Basic Numeracy (Class 10 level), Data Interpretation (simple charts and tables) and Decision-Making and Problem-Solving. Many candidates underestimate CSAT; failing to qualify disqualifies the GS Paper 1 score regardless of how well it was written.

Short answers for the sample questions above. Use this to self-check before generating a fresh AI-built mock test.
- Democracy main idea: Democracy goes beyond governance — it is a value system based on human dignity and respect.
- Roses are flowers, some red: No — we cannot conclude some roses are red. Some flowers being red doesn't mean roses (a subset) are among those red flowers.
- Clock angle 3:15: At 3:15, minute hand is at 90°; hour hand is at 97.5° (3h 15m × 0.5°/min). Angle = 7.5°.
- Odd one out squares: 300 — all others are perfect squares (11², 12², 13², 14², 15², 17²); 300 is not.
- 40 people Hindi/English: Neither = 40 − (25 + 20 − 10) = 40 − 35 = 5.
- Sun appears to move reason: Earth's rotation on its axis from west to east causes the sun to appear to rise in the east and set in the west.
- Ratio 4:7 sum 55: 4x + 7x = 55 → x = 5. Numbers: 20 and 35.
- 25% of 80 + 30% of 120: 20 + 36 = 56.
- a:b=2:3, b:c=4:5, find a:c: a:c = (2×4):(3×5) = 8:15.
- Train 100m crosses pole in 10s: Speed = 100/10 = 10 m/s = 36 km/h.
- Manager response to error: Understand the cause of the error and provide constructive feedback before taking disciplinary action.
- Over-reliance on technology: Critical of technology — warns against weakening of human skills.
- Series 1,4,9,16,25: 36 — perfect squares.
- 20% of 20% of 500: 20% of 500 = 100; 20% of 100 = 20.
- All fruits sweet, mango is a fruit: Mango is sweet.
